Daimler Chrysler, Government leaders engage Winnipeg company to provide advanced refueling systems for vehicles.

Kraus Global Inc., a Winnipeg company focused on the alternative fuels market was chosen by Daimler Chrysler to provide compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling equipment for their newest Mercedes Benz manufacturing facility in Bangkok, Thailand. This announcement follows the recently completed Hydrogen-Hybrid Fuel Cell Bus project led by the Government of Manitoba and Hydrogenics Corporation, where Kraus Global provided a Hydrogen dispenser and gas control panel. Both deals are examples of Kraus's products being utilized in advanced refueling initiatives involving public-use vehicles.

In Thailand, Daimler Chrysler was the first carmaker to announce the development of a bifuel drive train for the Thai market. The Mercedes-Benz E200 NGT runs on both natural gas and unleaded premium gasoline and is one of the few alternative fuel vehicles that comply with the Thai government's policy of reducing air pollution, and, its dependence on imported oil. The E200 NGT is currently the most powerful natural gas consumer vehicle in the Thai market.

In Winnipeg, the Hydrogen-Hybrid Fuel cell bus project showcased the capabilities of fuel cell hybrid bus technology on the streets of Winnipeg. Manitoba, a major bus manufacturing center in North America, is also a rich source of hydroelectric and wind power - necessary resources in the production of emission-free renewable hydrogen fuel. This is the second time that Kraus, the Government of Manitoba and Hydrogenics have worked together. Kraus also provided a dispenser and refueling support to the Hydrogen Hybrid International Combustion Engine (HHICE) project in February & March of 2005.

Kraus Global has a strong presence in the global alternative fuel refueling market including the Thai market. With 39 CNG compressors and close to 250 CNG dispensers in Thailand, Kraus is a market leader. In the global hydrogen refueling market Kraus has been a leading manufacturer, installing one of the first working hydrogen dispensers in the world in Munich Germany, and signing a deal in Seoul Korea last winter to supply a hydrogen dispenser as part of the country's first hydrogen vehicle refueling station installation.

Currently, Kraus continues to develop advanced refueling technologies for CNG, LPG, Hydrogen, and Petroleum fuels. Current research & development initiatives include:

  • A hydrogen station designed to compress low-pressure hydrogen to high pressure suitable for filling vehicles.
  • A Dispenser that can be used to fill hydrogen vehicle tanks to 10,000 psi so that vehicle range can be increased.
  • An electronic metering device that can control the blending of petroleum and bio fuels such as E85.

Originally founded in 1962, Kraus Global Inc. today is an innovative solutions provider of transportation refueling equipment and components in the alternative fuel and petroleum industries. Kraus is a recognized leader in the alternative fuels industry providing refueling equipment for compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed hydrogen (H2) fuels.
